Hi everyone! My name is Adri Cristofari and I am a senior here and excited for this class! I have heard a lot of great things about it and am excited to dive deeper into wine and all it has to offer. Before this class, I did not know much about the content but just after the introduction lecture, it is so much more in depth than I thought it was about wine! I do not know much about wine but I am excited to learn.

As like the rest of us, I am a college student and really am not going out and buying expensive/nice bottles of wine. My parents drink it sometimes at home and I will too, but I have never focused on the brand or any other identifying factors of it. My grandpa actually makes his own wine and always sends us home with a few bottles when we visit but it is not my favorite. My mom makes fun of me for it but I really like sweet, fruity wines and not the ones that are as "dry" as I think it is called. The one I am probably most familiar with is any type of Moscato and again, my mom makes fun of me for that. I like white wine more than red usually, except the occasional sangria, and I like sparkling stuff more than red but not as much as white. I tend to have wine at dinners with my family or hang outs with my friends if we want a casual night in with movies or snacks.
My roommate did have me try a red last week and I actually liked it!

As said above, just after the introduction video, this class seems to go more in depth than I thought which I am excited about. All the little facts I have learned so far are more than I ever knew and I can't wait to learn more. I also am looking forward to doing some wine tastings with friends also in this class and we have talked about going to the Wine Lab and even the Kroger bar to see what new things we can try. I also want to learn more to hopefully expand my pallet and have a deeper appreciation for wine

Tasting - Pinot Grigio

 This past weekend, I went out to dinner with my family and had a glass of Pinot Grigio. It was a Santa Margherita from the Adige River Valley in Italy. I told our waiter about this class and he was able to get the wine expert to tell us more about the wine. The harvest period for the grapes are the first half of September and the wine is meant to be enjoyed fresh, maybe aged for a year or 2. The glass was $19 at Mortons Steak House. From the website I learned, " In 1961, our winemaker was inspired by traditional sparkling wine vinification techniques used to ferment Pinot Grigio without skin contact".  https://santamargheritawines.com/wine/pinot-grigio/   It was of the sweeter wines the restaurant had, behind moscato and I thought it was very light and airy. It was slightly citrusy and smelled of apples and maybe grapefruit. Many reviews complimented the low price for such a great quality wine and described how light it was. Tasting - Rossini

 The next wine I tried was a little different and out of the normal context of what is a typical wine. I tried the Trader Joes Secco Strawberry and Raspberry Rossini which is described as a sparkling grape wine with natural flavors. It is produced in Germany and imported by Latitude Wines in Danville, California. It was $5.99 and my mom got it for me and now I have a reason to try it! First impressions are that it is a little thicker than other wines and has a little sparkle to it. With the thickness, I think it coats my mouth a little more than others. It has strong smells of strawberry and raspberry, just as the bottle says and less of that traditional "wine smell". It is more on the sweeter side that I tend to gravitate more and the strawberry is the primary taste while raspberry is the secondary. Tasting - Brut Rose

 Next, I tried Chandon Brut Rose. It is a sparkling varietal. I tend to like Rose, I had it a lot when I went to London over spring break! Located in Napa Valley, California, the winemakers use  a blend of the three traditional grape varietals used in Champagne —  Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier ; the Pinot giving the wine a nice deep salmon color in the glass. The  grapes are harvested at night to keep the fruit cool and preserve the freshness. Harvest is early August to retain acidity. This was given as a gift so I am unsure of the price! Online, the 750 mL seems to go for $22-25. Based on reviews, this seems to be a very popular wine  getting very good reviews. People say it is very well priced and holds up for days in the fridge when properly stored and tastes just as nice.
