Tasting - Cabernet Sauvignon

 For my first wine tasting, me and my friend Masan did a wine tasting and had it with dinner. We made garlic steak bites, green beans, and roasted potatoes, paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon from Knotty Vines. It was priced at $9.99 from Kroger, such a steal especially on a college students budget, and is from 2019 in California. As the book describes on page 66, Cabernets come from the North Coast of California in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake. It was also interesting to read that being the top grapes planted in Sonoma, the third most is Cabernet Sauvignon. The meatiness of the steak and cherry aromas of the wine paired well together, especially for someone who does not typically enjoy red wine like myself. I think drinking this wine with food helped me to enjoy the taste a lot more because it wasn't the only thing I was tasting with it. Combining it with the food helped to not keep that taste in my mouth lingering for an extended period of time. Using grapes from the common grape vine, the wine was very smooth and went down easy whereas some reds are so strong and dry that I flinch when I drink it. After reading reviews from Vivino.com, I agree with much that was said, especially of the cherry and ripe fruit tastes. Another food I would be curious to try this wine with would be chocolate because I did get some dark fruit notes that I think would been enjoyed well with dark chocolate. This is a wine I would definitely buy again and I would be curious to explore whether it is the brand I enjoy or the type of wine itself, maybe I am liking red wine more than I thought.

 The next wine I tried was a little different and out of the normal context of what is a typical wine. I tried the Trader Joes Secco Strawberry and Raspberry Rossini which is described as a sparkling grape wine with natural flavors. It is produced in Germany and imported by Latitude Wines in Danville, California. It was $5.99 and my mom got it for me and now I have a reason to try it! First impressions are that it is a little thicker than other wines and has a little sparkle to it. With the thickness, I think it coats my mouth a little more than others. It has strong smells of strawberry and raspberry, just as the bottle says and less of that traditional "wine smell". It is more on the sweeter side that I tend to gravitate more and the strawberry is the primary taste while raspberry is the secondary. Tasting - Rosé

 This past Friday, the wine I tasted was a Rosé from Whispering Angel. It is from  Côtes de Provence, Provence, France which is in Southeastern France  and  the region is known for its wine making and  specifically  making delicious Rosés. As  I  learned from this past lecture, Rosé can be made from any type of red grape but this specific one is made from  Grenache, Cinsault and Rolle (Vermentino)  grapes. It is from 2021 and was purchased at Wegmans for $24.99. When  I  think of Rosé,  I  think of fruity and floral notes, and that what was also  described  in  the  wine wheel  I   learned  about this  week. This specific wine however was a little more on the drier side I think, not as sweet as I expected but I still enjoyed it. Tasting - Brut Rose

 Next, I tried Chandon Brut Rose. It is a sparkling varietal. I tend to like Rose, I had it a lot when I went to London over spring break! Located in Napa Valley, California, the winemakers use  a blend of the three traditional grape varietals used in Champagne —  Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier ; the Pinot giving the wine a nice deep salmon color in the glass. The  grapes are harvested at night to keep the fruit cool and preserve the freshness. Harvest is early August to retain acidity. This was given as a gift so I am unsure of the price! Online, the 750 mL seems to go for $22-25. Based on reviews, this seems to be a very popular wine  getting very good reviews. People say it is very well priced and holds up for days in the fridge when properly stored and tastes just as nice.
