Tasting - Rossini

Image
The next wine I tried was a little different and out of the normal context of what is a typical wine. I tried the Trader Joes Secco Strawberry and Raspberry Rossini which is described as a sparkling grape wine with natural flavors. It is produced in Germany and imported by Latitude Wines in Danville, California. It was $5.99 and my mom got it for me and now I have a reason to try it! First impressions are that it is a little thicker than other wines and has a little sparkle to it. With the thickness, I think it coats my mouth a little more than others. It has strong smells of strawberry and raspberry, just as the bottle says and less of that traditional "wine smell". It is more on the sweeter side that I tend to gravitate more and the strawberry is the primary taste while raspberry is the secondary. As the fruity notes are evident, I think this would pair well with chocolate, especially dark and I like that it has a few bubbles but not overwhelming because sometimes with a P

Tasting - Sauvignon Blanc

For my next wine tasting, I had Sauvignon Blanc from Josh Cellars. It has been aged since 2021 and from California, specifically the North Coast and Paso Robles regions. I got it from Kroger and it was $10.99 and I found it interesting to learn in class that just because a wine is cheaper does not mean it will be bad because a lot of my experience has been cheaper wine and I have been happy with my choices. This Sauvignon Blanc is one of the major California white wine grapes. On page 94 of the book, the author describes how these grapes are used a lot in France and New Zealand which is interesting because I never would have thought that grapes able to be grown here are needed in France because France is such a big wine country. I had this wine with buffalo chicken dip (haha) which was not ideal and did not match, but I read that it pairs well with salmon and I LOVE salmon so that will be next to try. Many of the reviews I read comment how it is dry and another big word was easy, as w

Tasting - Cabernet Sauvignon

For my first wine tasting, me and my friend Masan did a wine tasting and had it with dinner. We made garlic steak bites, green beans, and roasted potatoes, paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon from Knotty Vines. It was priced at $9.99 from Kroger, such a steal especially on a college students budget, and is from 2019 in California. As the book describes on page 66, Cabernets come from the North Coast of California in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Lake. It was also interesting to read that being the top grapes planted in Sonoma, the third most is Cabernet Sauvignon. The meatiness of the steak and cherry aromas of the wine paired well together, especially for someone who does not typically enjoy red wine like myself. I think drinking this wine with food helped me to enjoy the taste a lot more because it wasn't the only thing I was tasting with it. Combining it with the food helped to not keep that taste in my mouth lingering for an extended period of time. Using grapes from the common gr

Hi everyone! My name is Adri Cristofari and I am a senior here and excited for this class! I have heard a lot of great things about it and am excited to dive deeper into wine and all it has to offer. Before this class, I did not know much about the content but just after the introduction lecture, it is so much more in depth than I thought it was about wine! I do not know much about wine but I am excited to learn. As like the rest of us, I am a college student and really am not going out and buying expensive/nice bottles of wine. My parents drink it sometimes at home and I will too, but I have never focused on the brand or any other identifying factors of it. My grandpa actually makes his own wine and always sends us home with a few bottles when we visit but it is not my favorite. My mom makes fun of me for it but I really like sweet, fruity wines and not the ones that are as "dry" as I think it is called. The one I am probably most familiar with is any type of Moscato and ag
